IRRIGATION, SOIL AND CROP MANAGEMENT AREA

In Irrigation, soil and crop management area the main research lines concern themes linked to: irrigation, soil and crop management in irrigated and not irrigated environment, crops simulation models and conservative agronomic practices. In particular:

- Irrigation: CO.T.IR. studies the effects of irrigation methods and quantities on the basis of crops  prductive answer, of the products qualitative characteristics, and on the impact of agronomic practices on soil fertility and environment;

- Soil and crops management: it analyses the research aspects linked to crops mineral and organic nutrition, to defence, to agronomic practices and to management strategies in order to reduce crop impact on environment, also linked to agrarian crops quality according to crops environment and to agronomic techniques, besides the research on alternative crops to produce energy;

- Crops simulation models: with crop models our Center can simulate different agri-technical sceneries and individuate (for a particular environment and crop) the management criteria which allow the best compromise among productiveness, quality and environmental impact;

- Conservative agronomic practices: CO.T.IR. deals with all the problems concerning extensive crops to individuate the agronomic strategies which conjugate crop competitiveness with the need of reducing pressure on environment. Organic matter conservation, soil erosion and fertility elements washing away are particularly important.
